If you haven’t been to Burnkane’s soundcloud page you are definitely missing out on some fantastic, as yet unreleased tracks.  “White Man” is a dark and grimey journey narrated by an evil, futuristic robotic drug dealer. The female vocals begging, “Just need a little…” Burnkane’s unsettling trademark bass and rhythms create an infectious dense atmosphere.

“Tranz General” begins in an ethereal wash of a distant choir and synths breaking into a stuttering, shuffling beat. Adding to that is some bone shaking bass. I could feel it in my feet through my computer speakers. I imagine it would knock your socks off through a full club sound system. About halfway in grime-treated hip hop vocals add to this hypnotic, menacing mix.

I’ll certainly be keeping an eye and ear out for new sounds from this original, top-notch producer!

TimeSig001_Snares

After what seems like an eternity, at least for a new Venetian Snares release, the man himself has posted a link to soundbites for a new full-length album entitled, “My So-Called Life”. It appears that he is starting his own sub-label, called Timesig, under the Planet-Mu umbrella. The samples range from sick ragga jungle to modern classical breakcore gymnastics. The album is set to drop August 23rd of this year. Just a warning, many of the vocal samples are definitely NSFW! Full review to come!

Track list:

1. Posers and Camera Phones
2. Cadaverous
3. Aaron2
4. Who Wants Cake?
5. Welfare Wednesday
6. Ultraviolent Junglist
7. Goodbye9/Hello10
8. Sound Burglar
9. Hajnal2
10. My So-Called Life

ThieveryCorporation

The band known as Thievery Corporation is gracing Chicago with their presence on June 25th, 2010. The band that has been around for over a decade will be joined at Congress Theater with fellow artists Telepath. The inventive duo, Thievery Corporation, will be performing their psychedelic music to fans of all ages.

So you don’t have thirty-five bones to spend on a ticket? Well one lucky fan is in for a treat. Members Only AV is throwing a contest to give away a FREE PAIR OF TICKETS to ONE lucky winner!

Most of you must be wondering: How might I procure such tickets? It’s rather simple really. BE CREATIVE! I don’t want to read through some sob stories about how you can’t afford to go see your favorite band of all time. Rather… write some poetry, create art, anything you feel like doing that suggests you deserve the tickets and submit your entry to: dena.hope.rand@gmail.com

The deadline to submit entries will be JUNE 20TH. The winner will then be chosen within the following days, with a few days to spare before the concert.

Check out Thievery Corporation on Myspace.

Good luck to all, can’t wait to see what some people come up with!

Jamie Teasdale, formerly one part of UK dubstep pioneers Vex’d, comes at us with his first release under the Kuedo (pron. “Q-doe”) moniker.  The Dream Sequence E.P. is miles away from the menacing, stark creations found on his work with Vex’d.  Forgoing the hoover bass wobble so prevalent in the dubstep sound, Kuedo seems to have created his own genre to work in. The opening track, “Starfox”, blasts off with icy, bit-reduced synths and a stuttering, rhythmic pulse to propel the track forward.  The melodic lines kick with hot modulating, distorting synths across the frequency spectrum.  “Shutter Light Girl”, provides an ethereal sonic interlude before kicking into, for me the highlight of the E.P, “Joy Construction”.  Divine off-kilter beats back the breathy synths that make up the backbone of this track.  Bass whomps swirl around wonderfully underneath the multiple melodic lines.  Finally we cap it off with “Glow”, a cool-laid back number that has the bass and synth lines throwing triplet licks around the mix.  Subtle female vocals whisper in the background and the track quietly breaks down to end the journey.

With Kuedo, Jamie Teasdale has definitely separated himself from his Vex’d days and continues to push things forward.
